How the Troop is organized

Boy Scouts is organized into The Troop consisting of all of the scouts and leaders.

The Troop

The Troop is run by the Scouts and is considered Boy Led. Scouts are organized into groups overseen by the Senior Patrol Leader (SPL).The Patrol Leader Council PLC
  • Assistant Senior Patrol Leaders (ASPL): provide direction and leadership other leaders and troop overall
  • Guides: provide experience and assistance to patrols and younger scouts
  • Other leaders including Quartermaster, Scribe, Bugler, etc. [Link to leadership descriptions]


Patrols are groups of scouts that are usually about the same age and experience. Patrol are the core unit of the troop. Patrols generally do activities together and meet regularly as a group. Learn more about Patrols and the Patrol method.
